Learn about the history of Oscarville, Georgia - a once vibrant and thriving Black community, before they were forced out in 1912.
Join GCPL as we chronicle a part of Georgia history - the story of Oscarville, Georgia where 1,100 black people once thrived. We discuss their amazing resilience of securing land, livelihoods, and financial success only 47 years out of slavery. We will recount the tragedy of the racial expulsion of 1912 that displaced them, caused great loss, and the eventual emergence of Lake Lanier.
