48 hours to write, shoot, edit, and upload a film! Participation can be done completely virtual! It is not mandatory to attend in-person registration. Registering here will sign you up for competing, and the registration form will be emailed on the 8th. In-person registration is at 6pm at the Duluth branch and will have games and an opportunity to win a special advantage... The element that must be included in the film will be announced/emailed at 7pm. Films must be uploaded 48 hours later.
The films will be screened the following weekend on Saturday the 16th!
1. Participants may register online or in-person.
2. The countdown clock will begin at 7pm on Friday, November 8th.
3. Those who cannot/did not make it to online/in-person registration and wish to partake will be allowed to register, per the discretion of the facilitators, by emailing the Learning Labs.
4. There will be either a theme, situation, or act that must be included in the film, or face massive point deduction.
5. Any films uploaded after 7pm on Sunday the 10th will be automatically disqualified, unless anyone from the crew has contacted the facilitators and given an acceptable reason for the delay.
6. Participants may enter solo or with a crew. There must be a crew representative who takes responsibility for being the point of contact. The crew representative must be at least 12 years old. If attending in-person registration and under 18, a parent/guardian must be present.
7. A participant can only be a crew representative once. A participant may hold any number of roles in a single crew. A participant with small roles may be on a total of two crews, example: crew 1 role - production assistant, crew 2 role - minor acting role.
8. Films may have co-directors.
9. Crew members can be added after the start of the countdown. The finalized crew list will be submitted with the film.
10. Films can be live-action or animated.
11. Films must be at least 45 seconds long, not including credits. There is no maximum length, but shorter films are encouraged, as we will be favoring quality over quantity.
12. The element that must be included in the film cannot SOLELY be in the credits.
13. Films must be mp4 or mov files. If we cannot play and view the film, it may be disqualified.
14. Films can be any resolution.
15. Credits are not mandatory, but are a plus.
16. Films must contain appropriate content and be equivalent to no more than PG-13.
17. Films will be uploaded through a Google form. Each film will be submitted with a submission form and a video release form, signed by the representative, and a parent/guardian if under 18.
18. For judging, crews will be split into one of three categories based on the experience level of the main crew (director/DP). Categorization will be at the discretion of the facilitators. A breakdown of each category will be given before registration.
19. The film submitted must have been made for the Fall 48-Hour Film Fest. Writing and all aspects of film production must have started after the countdown began. The film cannot include video from any previous projects. Exception: Using already-existing audio is acceptable.
20. Use of media from other sources is not permitted unless those clips are in the public domain, or you have received permission from the copyright holder. If you have obtained the rights to use a piece of media, documentation must be submitted with your film.
