Learn about the Japanese origami tradition of Senbazuru, or 1000 paper cranes. In the process, learn about the story of Sadako, a Japanese girl impacted by the Hiroshima bombing and make a paper crane to continue her legacy.
In Japanese culture, cranes are mystical creatures symbolizing longevity, happiness, and good fortune. According to the legend of Senbazuru, a wish is granted to those who fold 1000 origami cranes.
In this program, we will look at the story of Sadako, a girl who developed leukemia after the bombing of Hiroshima, and her efforts to fold 1000 cranes in order to receive a wish. In her honor, we will be making origami cranes to continue her legacy of peace.
