Come listen to Julian and Vania talk about their new book "Why On Earth".
With stories from NYT bestselling and debut authors, Why on Earth uses an accidental alien invasion to explore love and identity.
What starts as a simple rescue mission for a crew of teen aliens to recover one of their own soon becomes an interstellar encounter no one will forget.
Captain Iona is organizing an impromptu retrieval for her brother, an undercover alien posing as a movie star. But her efforts go awry when a technical malfunction turns her heroic rescue into an unintentional invasion. With tales of disguised extraterrestrials stuck in theme parks, starship engineers hitchhiking to get home, and myth-inspired intergalactic sibling reunions, each story in this multi-author anthology explores the universal desire to be loved and understood, no matter where you come from. After all...aliens are just like us.
Edited by beloved YA author Rosiee Thor and YA talk show host and bookseller Vania Stoyanova, the anthology crosses genre bounds to bring in tropes from romance and contemporary adventure with stories from Alex Brown, Beth Revis, Emily Lloyd-Jones, Eric Smith, Julian Winters, Laura Pohl, Maya Gittelman, M. K. England, Rebecca Kim Wells, and S. J. Whitby.
Books will be available for purchase and signing from Brave + Kind Books
Julian Winters is the author of the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Gold Award-winning Running With Lions; the Georgia Peach Award nominated Right Where I Left You; and the Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selections: How to Be Remy Cameron, The Summer of Everything, As You Walk On By, and Prince of the Palisades. His Adult romance debut, I Think They Love You, relased in January 2025. A self-proclaimed comic book geek, Julian currently lives outside of Atlanta where he can be found swooning over rom-coms or watching the only two sports he can follow—volleyball and soccer.
Vania Stoyanova grew up on Slavic folktales from her Bulgarian homeland. At a young age, she started telling tales with her camera and later with words. Vania now revels in sharing her favorite stories and books with readers as a bookseller at indie bookshop, Brave + Kind. When not running author events, she is known to get into shenanigans, put authors in the hot seat for Author Truth or Dares and find ways to bribe her friends to start book festivals like LOVE Y’ALL Romance Book Fest or conferences like YATLCon for writers of young adult fiction. You can find her online at @yatllive.
